Water-Cooled Tuk-Tuks Double Revenue for a Phuket Fleet
A Real-World Success Story from Thailand
Phuket Taxi Operator Faced Business Collapse During Peak Season
Back in January, this third-generation Phuket taxi fleet owner hit us up with a problem that was gonna put him out of business. Tourism was absolutely exploding there, but his old beat-up gasoline tuk-tuks were literally falling apart. In 35°C tropical heat, those air-cooled engines would overheat nonstop—drivers had to pull over every single hour just to let them cool down. The old ones were super cramped too, only fit 4 people max and even that was a squeeze. They could barely crawl up the island's 25-degree hills and burned through gas like crazy.
He was losing customers left and right to newer fleets, and his drivers were quitting left and right 'cause they couldn't make enough money. He spent weeks testing every single gasoline tuk-tuk you could buy in Southeast Asia, and at the end of it all, he said our commercial line was the only thing that could save his business.
Factory Visit Leads to Custom-Designed Tourism and Taxi Models
The guy flew all the way out to our Shandong factory, brought his head mechanic and his two best drivers with him. For three straight days, they tested every single model we had, from the basic 200cc to the heavy-duty workhorses. They weren't just looking—they were beating the hell out of every single one. And they were totally shocked by our water-cooled ones. Even loaded down with 500kg and grinding up our steep test ramps, they ran 8 hours straight and never once got hot enough to shut down.
We built them exactly what they needed for Phuket. Upgraded 6-seaters with extra legroom, big rear luggage racks, built-in USB chargers and Bluetooth radios. 330mm ground clearance so they could drive through flooded roads in rainy season. And a tuned 200cc water-cooled engine that ate those steep hills for breakfast without burning extra gas. The final order was 25 taxi-style tuk-tuks for city runs, and 15 tourist-style ones for beach trips and sightseeing tours.
Results Far Exceed Expectations
Two months after the first container showed up, the guy called us back and he couldn't believe it. Even on the hottest days in April, the water-cooled engines never overheated once. Fuel consumption dropped from 5.2 liters to 3.1 liters per 100km, and that 18-liter tank gives 260km of range. So drivers only had to fill up once a day instead of three times.
The six-seaters let drivers take bigger groups, and the comfy seats plus USB chargers meant tourists were tipping 30% more on average. Every single driver was now making twice as much money per day, and not one driver had quit since the new fleet started running. He already put in a second order for 40 more gasoline tuk-tuks, and now he's our exclusive distributor for all of Southern Thailand.
Why Global Operators Choose Our Tuk Tuks
Here's the thing—most companies just crank out the same generic gasoline tuk-tuks and ship them anywhere in the world. We don't do that. We work directly with operators to build vehicles for their exact local roads and what they actually need. Whether you want a tough taxi model for busy streets, a comfy tourist model for sightseeing, a high-power one for heavy loads and steep hills, or an energy-efficient one to cut costs, we adjust every single detail to get it right. All our 200cc tuk-tuks come with a 1-year warranty. That's why over 500 operators across 32 countries trust our commercial tuk-tuks to run their businesses.
