Diesel Tricycle Road Test: Real Driving Performance Demonstration for Ghana
Case Overview
A Ghanaian mobility and logistics firm wanted to upgrade its aging fleet, planning to purchase 120 heavy-duty diesel tricycles for urban passenger trips and rural cargo deliveries. Roads across Ghana are extremely varied: Accra’s downtown is packed with tight, congested streets, while rural areas have bumpy dirt tracks, rugged farm roads and steep hills—all of which call for tough, adaptable, high-powered three-wheelers.To prove our diesel tricycles could hold up in real local conditions, we ran a full on-road performance test across Accra and nearby rural/hilly zones. This case breaks down the entire test, shares hard performance data, and explains how the live demo won the client’s trust and locked in a bulk fleet order.
Customer Demand & Performance Requirements
The Ghanaian buyer laid out clear, practical standards for diesel tricycles, tailored to their daily commercial work:
Strong diesel power & solid load capacity: Enough torque to climb steep hills without losing power, even fully loaded with passengers or cargo—non-negotiable for Ghana’s hilly rural routes.
Good fuel efficiency: Lower diesel usage to cut daily operating costs and boost long-term profits for the fleet.
Easy maneuverability: Navigate Accra’s narrow alleys, crowded market roads and tight turns without hassle.
Durable & low-maintenance: Stand up to dust, vibration and rough road wear, run for hours daily, and minimize repair downtime.
Comfortable & safe: Reduce passenger vibration on rough roads, with reliable brakes and a stable frame for regular commercial us
Real Driving Performance Road Test Execution
1. Test Route Planning
We mapped a 160km test route that covers exactly the roads the client uses every day:
Accra urban core: Busy downtown streets, crowded market areas, frequent traffic stops and narrow lanes
Suburban highways & feeder roads: Paved suburban roads with mixed traffic and gentle slopes
Rural dirt roads & hills: Unpaved farm tracks, dusty rough paths and steep uphill/downhill stretches (standard in Ghana’s farming regions)
2. Test Items & Actual Results
Fuel efficiency test: The diesel tricycle hit 4.8L/100km in busy urban traffic and 4.1L/100km on suburban highways. This beat the client’s cost targets, cutting daily fuel costs by roughly 20% vs. their current fleet.
Power & hill climb test: Fitted with a high-torque diesel engine, the tricycle easily climbed 25° steep hills even at full load, with no stalling or power drop—perfect for Ghana’s hilly backroads.
Maneuverability test: The compact frame and responsive steering made it simple to weave through Accra’s narrow alleys and tight market corners, with smooth control in stop-and-go traffic.
Durability & continuous run test: The tricycle ran nonstop for 9 hours at full load across mixed road conditions, with no engine overheating, mechanical issues or frame damage. Its reinforced frame and dust-resistant parts held up great against Ghana’s dusty, harsh conditions.
Comfort & stability test: The upgraded suspension cut down vibration drastically on rough dirt roads. Test drivers and passengers noted a smooth ride, and the brakes responded fast even on wet, bumpy surfaces for better safety.
3. Customer On-Site Participation
The client’s management team, fleet supervisors and veteran drivers all joined the test, taking turns driving and checking performance in real time. Our technical team stayed on-site the whole time, walking them through data, answering questions and showing quick maintenance tips to keep things fully transparent.
Customer Outcome & Feedback
“This real-road test erased every doubt we had. This diesel tricycle is built for Ghana’s roads—the power handles hills easily, fuel use is lower than we expected, and it’s tough enough for our rough rural routes. It’s way better than the old models we have now, and drivers and passengers will both be happy with it.”
— Mr. Kofi Mensah, CEO, Ghanaian Mobility & Logistics Provider
Right after the test wrapped up, the client signed the 120-unit order on the spot, and already mentioned plans to expand the fleet further next quarter.
